Cousins Andy Bonura and Tanner Bean are the founders of the group known as Vestige. Besides being partners in building monuments of sound, the pair grew up together in Oklahoma City, and have been playing and writing music together intermittently since they were old enough to handle their instruments; Andy the drums and Tanner the guitar.
In the summer of 2001, the duo agreed to fortify their commitment to the art, drawing the blueprints for Vestige and writing the material that would years later become the foundation of their debut E.P. "Anodyne". With the addition of bassist Brad Burleson to the original line-up, all Vestige now lacked was a singer. A long and tedious search began, but the guys found it difficult to find a frontman that matched their musical vision and passion for the art. The trio went as far as starting a website, and recording an instrumental demo to better facilitate their search, but fortune didn''t smile on the band so soon. After over 2 years of jamming, writing, and auditioning a countless number of singers they grew restless. Change appeared obvious as well as necessary.
"We decided to move and figured that we may as well go all out," explains Tanner. "Taking that into consideration, Los Angeles seems like the most logical and really the only choice."
Shortly, before the move Brad decided to stay in Oklahoma, but that didn''t hinder Andy and Tanner''s desire in any way. So, as much to escape their own comfort zones as to explore all possibilities, the cousins took their show on the road to new experiences, new opportunities, and new challenges. On Halloween of 2003, Andy and Tanner arrived in Los Angeles, where they began relentlessly pursuing a wider audience for their atmospheric euphony.
Approximately two weeks later, Andy and Tanner met Jonathan Liber, a being who had been making a successful living as a musician since he was a teenager and had toured with such reputable acts such as Buckcherry, Fantomas, NIN, Dwight Yokam, and twerp to name only a few. A deep friendship and respect grew between the three and in January 2004, the long sought-after and ever-elusive member was officially found. Jonathan joined Vestige as the lead singer and lyricist. Later, after auditioning countless ego-driven, cock-rock bassists, Jonathan decided to play the bass as well as sing; and Vestige finally completed their sweeping, spherical sound. Mere weeks later, the band played their first show at Boardners in Hollywood. Since, they have played such reputable clubs as the Whiskey A Go Go and Bar Sinister and continue to perform around the Los Angeles area on a regular basis.
Drawing on such pioneering influences as The Doors and Pink Floyd, the music of Vestige is a highly accessible blend of aggression and restraint. Driving this compelling and dimensional sound is the resonant tribal thunder of Andy''s drumming, paralleled by Tanner''s guitars that meander from the delicate and gossamer refrains of "Center" to the reverberating pulse of the unrepentant "Dipmake". Then there''s Jonathan. The agoraphobic pill-popper who lives in the studio, and, if had no music, would be dead.
Vestige released "Anodyne", a self-produced, self-financed, and even self-recorded five song E.P. in June of 2004. Vestige''s music; meticulously crafted while maintaining its honesty, takes the listener on a journey from the heights of euphoria, to the swirling depths of infinity; continuing the experiment begun by such influential bands as Led Zeppelin and Tool. In their agile, masterful hands we are brought to a sonic landscape we could not have reached alone.
