Kyle Moyers grew up in a small railroad town near Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It is a place where people know everything about you, good, bad or otherwise. In a small town there are no secrets and for Kyle, a blessing and a curse.
At the age of eleven he found his grandfathers Gibson J-45 in the back of a closet and instantly knew that this was a way to relieve some of the boredom of small town life. He signed up for guitar lessons and within 4 months was asked not to return. When his mother called the instructor to find out why, sure that it would be something about her son’s lack of interest or disruptive attitude, she was told simply that, “I have run out of things to teach him”.
Kyle continued to hone his skills by playing in bars around Cape Girardeau. His mix of blues guitar licks and thought provoking lyrics made him a local favorite at the age of sixteen.
For many years now Kyle has worked to reconcile the dark side of small town living with the “gee-shucks”, and apple pie side that creates a stark disconnect of reality to many of those who grow up longing for something different but can’t seem to escape the old friends and familiar trappings of home.
In his debut album entitled ‘Cold’, Kyle digs deep into this chasm and reveals the bittersweet triumphs and glorious sadness of small town America in a fresh and relevant way.
The album takes listeners through the longing, anger, and hope of someone coming of age in this modern world while surrounded by a crumbling dream of the 1950’s.
