Details:
VINYL SOUP is a Eclectic/Progressive Rock Band based out of Nashville, Tennessee. The band was formed in January 2003 by guitarist and songwriter, Andrew Hooker, a native of West Point, Mississippi (Howlin'' Wolf''s hometown). Like many musicians from the land of the blues, Andrew left the state in 1997 to pursue opportunity in the city. He landed in Hollywood, California and enrolled at the Musicians Institute (GIT) to study commercial guitar. After completing his two year degree, Andrew moved closer to home and settled just south of Music City, U.S.A.

Armed with a handful of songs and a dream, Andrew recruited Nashville bassist Evan Brewer and drummer Paul Allen to fullfill his vision. VINYL SOUP''s sound explores many styles and genres, but they are best known for a blend of Caribbean Jazz, Folk, Blues, Reggae, and sometimes a little Bluegrass. Their sound has been compared to the 60''s, 70''s and todays touring and recording jam band scene. The music is well crafted melodies and lyrics with an eccentric sense of humor at times and a heavy emphasis on improvisation and musical exploration.

In December 2003 VINYL SOUP released their debut release on Creek Slide Records entitled, Chasing Yesterday. During the week of March 19-25 2004, VINYL SOUP made #1 on the Jazz Charts at New York City based internet station, https://www.tradebit.com. They also made #19 on the Top 30 Charts bumping famous reggae artist, Toots and the Maytals to #20.

In March 2004 Evan Brewer left the band due to musical and schedule conflicts. He was replaced by DrewBud, an accomplished jazz bassist from Boston, MA. Paul Allen left the band as well, in May 2004 for the same musical reasons. Paul was replaced by drummer, vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter, (Brother) John Salaway. With a debut album under the belt and a new line up, VINYL SOUP can be seen live at various cities and college towns throughout the southeast.
