Details:
At 5 years old Vicki held her first guitar and it became a permanent fixture in her life. The musical genes were passed by a banjo picking Great Grandfather and a big band drummer Grandfather that influenced the love of all types of music to her ears.
From high school age in a little rural community in Virginia called Snow Creek located in-between Martinsville and Roanoke, Vicki performed with gospel and rock groups and then continued her musical career while attending Elon University in North Carolina. She performed with jazz, disco, and country & western bands.
Her solo performances with her own original songs won her several Elon University talent shows and she played in coffee houses and restaurants through out North Carolina. With the band Carolina Cowboys, she performed in front of artists James Taylor, Karla Bonoff, George Jones, Conway Twitty and EmmyLou Harris to mention a few. One of the highlights of her career was sitting down and talking to the legendary EmmyLou Harris while playing at an annual Doc Watson Festival in Wilksboro, NC.
In 1998 a diagnosis of bladder cancer made Vicki realize it was time to start the music project she had always wanted to do. "I knew my first love of music and playing my original songs was going to have to be taken more seriously now or never and to quit putting off my dream of getting my songs heard." Vicki started playing solo acts again in 1999 after many years of being out of the public eye. Her goal was to promote her original music where it could be heard and promote a following and then to put her original songs on a CD and promote that. Her dreams kept getting put on the back burner with her battles of the reoccurring cancer.
Finally the dream started in February 2003 with the help of Producer/Engineer Karen Kane at Audio Genesis Studio in Wilmington, NC where Vicki now resides. The dream became a reality upon the completion in July 2003. The production and hard work of the CD "Don''t Forget To Breathe" was finished. Two guest performers and talented musicians played on Vicki''s CD. Kit Holmes of Austin Texas played keyboards on 10 of the 11 songs and the last song on the CD "Cup O'' Joe", which is a blue grass song in memory of the blue grass roots she came from, had a guest appearance by Louisa Branscomb of Atlanta Georgia playing the banjo.
Part of the proceeds of the CD''s sales will be donated to The American Cancer. Vicki is traveling and playing in venues through out the United States and working on another CD. She also has 2 books in the works that she wants to publish soon. She has currently just finished working on a project for The American Cancer Society Southeast Division as well. A compilation CD entitled "Music For Life volume one" that features artists Patti Witten, Allison Tartalia, Danielle Miraglia, and herself. All of the profits of that CD go to The American Cancer Society. You can find it for sale here at Cdbaby also.
