Prairie musician Jesse Davis Selkirk refers to his singer/songwriter project as Green Bottle Street. Since it''s inception in 2005 Selkirk has released 2 EPs and a full length album under his label Wateroverstone Recordings, and played shows across Western Canada. The album “Cycles of Dying” was largely composed in a one room cabin in Northern Saskatchewan. Its lush arrangements and anthemic hooks have garnered radio play around the province, and won him a devoted following in some of the larger centres. His newest release - an EP entitled “Sad Happy Foolish Wise” – is already gaining momentum, with glowing reviews and loyal airplay on local radio. It consists of a sampling of songs written over the winter of 2007 while living and working in Cudworth, a small rural community North of Saskatoon. This outing features more stripped down, intimate arrangements. Piano and acoustic guitar are occasionally accompanied by bowed bass, or fiddle. The recording is distinguished throughout by Jesse''s compelling sense of melody, and deep lyrical insight.
The Green Bottle Street live performance is characterized by spontaneity and flexibility. Impromptu ACappella children''s songs have been known to pop up. Existential prairie hip-hop has also been known to make an appearance. Departing from the stage and climbing on tables for sing-alongs has also taken place at occasional intervals. Jesse’s original music is always presented with poise, sincerity, and humour.
