Details:
Growing up in the small farming community of Wasco, California, Victor dreamed of being a performer. His parents, first generation immigrants from Mexico, listened to Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Buck Owens. But that was only when they weren''t singing along with the hypnotic rhythms of Latin artists. As he grew up, those early twang and stomp influences were spiced with Victor''s love for the smooth vocals of George Strait and the energy of Garth Brooks.
Victor chased his dream by playing county fairs and clubs. He rarely sang cover tunes, opting for his own original material. He was a good performer. People liked his songs. He was charismatic. He was persistent. He even convinced Buck Owens'' Buckaroos to play on his first ever demo session at the age of 19. His band, "Prairie Thunder" opened up for Collin Raye, Sammy Kershaw, Lee Roy Parnell, and Merle Haggard. Still, he didn''t get the break he was looking for. Victor was always a really good singer, and everybody told him so. He just wasn''t a great singer. So he did something about it.
"When I started taking voice lessons, I just couldn''t believe the change," Victor says. "Just learning how to breathe correctly gave me so much more control over my voice, so much more power. I just feel a lot more confident, and it''s a lot more fun."
So with the turn of the century came the turn of the corner for Victor Sanz. His first album titled "Destination Unknown" was released in early 2000. The album was produced by Nashville songwriter deluxe Max T. Barnes and Bob Bullock and featured songs from "A" list writers Steve Warnier, Tom Shapiro, Skip Ewing, Tom McHugh, and Victor himself.
"Destination Unknown" consisted of 11 songs full of young country groove and traditional twang. He even added a little Latin twist with a bilingual rendition of the pop classic "I Go Crazy." Victor pledges allegiance to the Bakersfield sound, and kicks it up a notch by slinging the bass and kick drum right up front. His sing-along vocals and catchy melodies caught the attention of people and dance floors across the country. Two songs: "Destination Unknown" and I''m Gonna Be There" cracked the Billboard charts. The video for Destination Unknown won CMT''s "Delivery Room" voting.
Over the years Victor has opened for many artists including: Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakam, Charlie Daniels, Chris LeDoux, Gary Allan, Chely Wright, Danni Leigh, Brad Paisley, Shenandoah, Billy Yates, Jeff Bates, and Diamond Rio.
In 2004 Victor and Bakersfield businessman Scott Hacker formed West Coast Independent Records, Inc. His sophomore release as an independent recording artist shows no sign of a jinx, in fact "Hey Country" has turned the heads of more than a few in the industry. The first release "Tell Me What You Wanna Do" has quickly become a radio favorite. Produced by Billy Yates, this new album is putting Victor on Country Music''s fast track.
Most of the songs are about Victor''s favorite topic: love. That''s because he has so much of it in his life. Married for twelve years to his wife Josi, Victor is the father of two little girls; Brianna who is ten and five year old Kristina. They also have a 2 year old son name Lucas. They currently reside in Bakersfield, CA.
