Details:
Born into a family of musicians in Nigeria, Wole Awolola has been singing for as long as he can remember. Owing his musical talents to a strong church upbringing and as the son of the church’s founder, he eventually became one of the lead musicians at a young age. Arriving in the UK in 1993, he joined a local ministry where his passion for music was further fuelled and soon, he became one of the key members of the music team, planning, arranging and managing the presentation of songs by the choir on a weekly basis, and particularly during special programmes. Some of which have been broadcasted live and featured on major Christian Television Stations like God TV, BET and TBN, based in the US. Over the years, Wole has honed his ability to experiment with different musical styles and trying his hand at song arrangements. At the same time, he has worked on his delivery of harmonies by attending numerous vocal training sessions. It was at this point he started writing and composing his own songs, some of which he has performed at public events. Soon afterwards he met a young man by the name of Earon Quancoe, a producer. They soon became a duo and started studio recording sessions together. Notably, in Wole’s early days of song-writing, most of the songs came to him while waiting at bus stops on his way home from work and on the bus itself! ‘Let Everything’ is Wole’s first solo project and he plans to release a full LP consisting of 12 songs by autumn of 2008. “Let everything” the first track on his debut EP is the first song he ever wrote which was inspired by a gospel group called Virtue, and composed while on a bus heading for university. The song simply calls on everything alive to give God praise and thanks for all He does. With the support of Earon, the melody, lyrics and arrangements of the song evolved with time. “Faithful” came about when a friend suggested they write a song about God’s faithfulness. To date, Wole admits this is the only song that the verses, chorus, bridge and vamp all came to him at once. “Suddenly” was inspired by a sermon he had heard by the same title, talking about how one’s life or a situation can be transformed swiftly. Based on a personal experience, he felt he had to testify about it. His musical influences vary, from the likes of Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, John Pee Kee, Smokie Norful, Jay Moss, Donald Lawrence, Israel Houghton, Byron Cage, Jonathan Butler, Kim Burrell, Marvin Sapp, Usher Raymond, Boys II Men, Blackstreet, John Legend to mention a few. Interestingly, Wole Awolola is a Computer Systems Engineer (BEng) by qualification and a Property Developer and a voice trainer by employment. He is an avid reader and loves films. He is happily married with a 20month old son, enjoys spending time with his wife and having a good laugh together.
