Actor/Filmmaker Rocco Karega, (performing under the name X-MAN), is a graduate of Crispus Attucks High School, named after the first American to die in this country''s fight for independence from British rule known in history as The Boston Massacre. He ventured to Hollywood in 1977 where he gained experience on stage and eventually landed roles in "NUTS," starring Barbra Streisand, "What''s Happening Now," working with the late Shirley Hemphill, and was hired as an Understudy in one episode of "Designing Women," before executive decision was made to contract Meshach Taylor (who played Anthony during the series) also a native of Indianapolis. Rocco is also an Alumnus of The Quincy Jones Workshop working with Robi Reed-Hume, Casting Director for many Spike Lee films and the Eddie Murphy motion picture, "Harlem Nights." One of his most memorable associations was with the late Mabel King, who portrayed the mother in the original network series "What''s Happening." He can go on forever about his experience of meeting and associating with famous motion picture actors like Richard Dreyfus, Karl Malden, Sidney Poitier, Maureen Stapleton, the late Robert Webber, Dee Wallace-Stone, Gary Lockwood and William Windom as well as getting to host for 3 days during 1989''s Denver Film Festival one of the most famous Special Effects Wizards in Hollywood film history, Ray Harryhausen ("Clash of the Titans" and "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad) . Rocco''s horror film, "DEMON COP" which he Wrote, Directed and played the Lead Role released only Overseas and not in America in 1991 featuring veteran motion picture and television Actor CAMERON MITCHELL, making Rocco a Published Writer, is now a Rare Collector''s Item in the U.K.

"World, Flesh and Devils" marks his debut CD. It was conceived after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001. Even though the tragedy was deeply disturbing, what was most disturbing for him was how people started behaving in post 9-1-1. "It seemed we would come together and act more like human beings are suppose to act," he says. "I mean we had all the flag waving and rah-rah-rah that showed a renewal in patriotism, but then we began slipping back into the same behavior we were engaged in before the attack. We were wondering how Islamic extremists view us as ''the great Satan''. But if you look at how "we act" to one another and others, it''s not that great of a mystery. On the news and radio, in newspaper and magazines, you see what we''re still doing with no end in sight. Abortion, scandals, the murder and kidnapping of children, domestic violence, total disrespect --- it makes you want to question, especially if many of the terrorists lived among us for several years. What they saw and heard while living here had to justify, in their minds, the belief that the western world is indeed the great Satan."

He goes on to explain briefly the creation of this CD. "The title track "World, Flesh and Devils" examines how we rallied together but then slipped back into what we were doing before. It even asks the question "Where''s Chandra?" referring to Chandra Levy who has since been found but was still missing at the time of this recording. "3 Wishes" was inspired by friends and people on various tv and radio talk shows who were expressing what they were wishing for since the attack. "For The Sake of the Children" is to get one to examine the state of our children more. Are we really doing enough for them. Finally, "Black Planet" questions our role as humans believing we are a planet of light, but whose actions and behavior reflect more of a planet of darkness." He was asked why this CD appears in the category Hip-Hop/Rap even though it''s not the traditional "hip-hop/rap" that pretty much dominates mainstream music culture, rather than in the New Age or Easy Listening category. "Early pre-mastered copies were heard by many people of all walks of life and professions in a simple grassroot test marketing ploy," he explains. "Their feedback said it was different and I should try it in this category to see what response I would get. They felt what I was presenting here might be an ''alternative'' to the basic and hard-core language they''ve heard in other recordings involving some type of rap. Quite a few of them have said that the hip-hop/rap generation needs to hear something like this. We''ll see."

Hopefully, Rocco''s first CD will be successful enough for him to do a follow-up he has plans for. One going a bit deeper and more provocative than the first simply titled "State of the Human Address," inspired after watching the State of the Union Address in January of 2002 by President George W. Bush. He hopes you enjoy this first CD wishing with all of his heart that you would look forward to the second.
