"Yolanda Martinez" was born and raised in So. New Mexico. She was one of 11 children and grew up very poor working in the fields and helping to raise her younger siblings. She has a flair for life that is rare and hard to find in these times. Growing up close to nature and connected with Earth Mother gives this singer, performer an energy that all that meet her can see and feel. Her music is full of life, full of light and makes one feel good about ourselves and others. The songs on this CD are all legends and stories. "Wolf Legends" talks about our greatest teacher the Wolf. She sings about the Elders always urging us to stay busy, stay creative otherwise you may become a straggler and the wolf is going to get you. In "Coyote Woman", she calls to the mystical being, the trickster to come and dance with her around the camp fire. "Waking Up" came to her one spring morning when she was living in NC and she was walking up her mountain and she saw all of nature waking up, the birds were singing, ants were working, cocoons were hatching, etc. "Soaring Eagle" is calling for brother Eagle to carry our prayers to Great Spirit and let him know that his people are still here, standing strong.
