METAL: 80''s Metal, ROCK: Punk
Formed in the beginning months of 2002, Zero Down''s founding members, Lenny Burnett (Guitar - No Direction, Mr. Green Genes, & Lead Pipe Cinch) and Mark "Hawk" Hawkinson (Vocals - Dumt) began writing songs that would infuse their punk, hard rock, and metal influences. Joined shortly thereafter by James Atkins (Bass - No Direction & Hammerbox), Chas Comstock (Guitar - The Probes & Naked Sun) and temporary fill in Joel Herbert (Drums - Mr. Green Genes & Lead Pipe Cinch), the band entered Plum Tree Studios in the summer to record a three song demo to get an early evaulation of the chemistry. Engineered by Richard Williams, Zero Down recorded early versions of "Grace," "Enough," and "Bulletproof." Excited by the potential, Hawk and Lenny were ready to move forward. Unfortunately, because of other commitments, the rest of the band would not be involved. This was only a minor set back as a new and more committed rhythm section was found. Long time friend Tyler "https://www.tradebit.comx" Lindsley (Drums - Jesters Of Chaos & North American Bison) and Ronnie Banner (Lead Guitar - Hyper As Hell, Fistfull & The Born Again Losers) were added to the line-up. After spending the Fall/Winter working on new material and getting tighter as a unit, Zero Down played its first show to a packed house at The Sunset Tavern onJanuary 4, 2003 with The Ones & https://www.tradebit.com band immediately hit the studio to record new material. On February 18, 2003 the band entered House Of Thermo Studios with Todd Ferkinstad at the helm. The result was five new songs showing more diversity and strength: "Embrace," "Rejuvenate," "Ground," "Collision," and "Casino Royale." Packaged with the earlier three song demo, the band had its first CD entitled "8." The next months saw the band playing live shows throughout the northwest. Gaining momentum, the last piece of the puzzle was just ahead. After guest appearing live on some classic metal covers, Fred Speakman (Guitar - My Name, Drew Church & Horrible) was added as second guitarist. The Sunset Tavern, Studio 7, The Lakepoint, and The Rocksport soon caught the band hitting its stride live. Until now, the band had not quite captured the sound and energy of their live sets in the studio. Both recordings were representative of a young band getting its feet wet, but it was now time to move up to the next level. Enter Brian Nelson and Elliot Bay . Having played for many years in the Seattle scene (Drums - GORILLA & THE PURDINS) and working on many projects (notably Nirvana - Lithium), he was the perfect choice. After a full week of tracking, mixing, and mastering in mid-October, the results were undeniable. Entitled "Pound for Pound," the new CD contains new recordings of "Bulletproof" and "Disgrace" (formerly titled "Grace") and new cuts "Kick It Down," "Inside Out," "Bronson," and "Toilet King."Establishing the band both locally and nationaly, "Pound For Pound" recieved great reviews from both Punk and Metal press:
