Details:
Following on from their acclaimed 2006 release BIG WATER and their 30-odd years of writing and producing truly beautiful Australian albums, PENNY DAVIES & ROGER ILOTT have taken another giant leap with MOON CALLER, their latest release.
MOON CALLER combines Penny Davies’ moving vocals with Roger Ilott’s artistry on acoustic and electric guitars, and features the duo’s son Jordan on drums along with Roger’s 1970’s Rusty Dusty Bros. band mate Jed Hudson on bass, creating a strong rhythmic feel throughout – folk-rock at its absolute best.
Over the years Roger and Penny have written and sung about the beautiful, challenging and poignant journeys we take in our lives, through family, friendships and hardships. On this album they continue these journeys. Aurelia is Penny’s story of emigrating from England by ship at age 14. Pte. Herbert Thomas Scard tells the tragic tale of Roger’s uncle who shipped off to war at 16; Armstrong is the story of the unifying power of the first journey to the moon, while a journey just as important – the journey into adulthood - is tenderly remembered in Goodbye To Your Schooldays.
MOON CALLER features songs about people, climate, greed, the price of war, human achievement, and human frailty, the lessons of history, bushrangers, growing up and growing older. The moon is a strong symbol throughout the album - with its focus on the mysteries and the tides of human life on this planet.
MOON CALLER is a stunning success and deserves an honoured place in the music collection of devotees of music EVERYWHERE!
