My first venture into “pop” music was at the age of fifteen when I started a doo wop group called the “SIXTEENS” and started writing songs. They were pretty basic 50’s R&R style love songs. That band broke up when I put my foot through the lead guitar player’s amplifier, because it was louder than mine. However, my interest in writing tunes was sparked, and after a sojourn through the world of folk music, I landed in the Seventies, as a staff writer for a number of music publishing houses in Los Angeles. This was in the days, when publishers would pay writers to simply crank out songs that sounded like they would work on the radio. I wrote with lots of different artist and types of music in mind.
This album was conceived when in going back to retrieve some of the “Keepers” from that era (taking old demos off analog tape, transferring them to digital format, and sweetening them into finished products) I realized that I had at least an album full of rock and roll, soul, and R&B songs that fit together pretty well. These songs have not been in the forefront of my performance repertoire, because they require a band to pull them off on stage, but it has been a joy to assemble them and present them here for your enjoyment.
I am grateful to Stephen Geyer and David Jackson for their great recording, arranging and performing abilities, and for their willingness to aid me in the completion of this project, and to the excellent mastering ear of Michael Lewis of Wombat Productions for enhancing the high lights.
Rock and roll is here to stay. It will never die…. Although it will surely have to endure many changes.
