Presentation
This CD includes sixteen works that I composed between 1997 and 2008, of a total of approximately thirty works that complete my current catalogue. It is a very wide selection that considers several chamber configurations, music for solo instruments, mixed electroacoustic works and computer music. These pieces were premiered and recorded in different countries such as the United States, Germany, France or Chile. Many of them were especially composed for the participant performers in this CD, and in some cases in a very tight composer/performer collaboration, that has benefited me tremendously.
The title of this release, UniSono, comes directly from the idea of only one source, or several sources that somehow coincide and it adequately represents the gist or conducting thread of the works included in this release. One way or the other, all the works on this CD seek to explore and expand the sonic possibilities of one or more sources in order to generate new musical contexts for them, especially through the use of computer technology. The idea of presenting acoustic instruments under new musical and more complex contexts is something that has interested me since the beginning of my musical career. This interest me, not only from a musical perspective, but also from a global point of view, after observing how certain methods, objects and beliefs very rooted in our culture have been modified by computers and digital technology. Disc A contains works of a more acoustical character, while disc B has mixed works and computer or acousmatic music.

Biography
Rodrigo F. Cádiz, Ph.D. (Santiago, Chile, 1972).
He holds degrees in Civil Industrial Engineering with major in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Music with major in Composition from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he studied with Alejandro Guarello, Aliosha Solovera and Pablo Aranda. He obtained his doctorate in Music Technology (Ph.D) from Northwestern University, USA, under the supervision of Dr. Gary Kendall in 2006. At Northwestern he studied acoustic composition with Augusta Read Thomas and Jay Alan Yim and computer music with Virgil Moorefield, Amnon Wolman and Gary Kendall.
His music includes works for solo instruments, chamber music, orchestra, mixed works, audiovisual media and computer music and has been programmed in Chile, the United States, Argentina, Germany, France, North Ireland, Spain and Portugal, in venues such as Festival de Música Contemporánea Chilena, "June in Buffalo" Music Festival, International Computer Music Conference, International Electroacoustic Music Festival "Synthese" in Bourges, Festival Internacional de Música Electroacústica de Santiago "Ai-maako", Sonorities Festival and "Música Viva". Among the performed that have commisioned his works there are Schlagquartett Köln, Taller de Música Contemporánea UC, Trío del Sur and Duo Divertimento.
His research papers have been published in international conferences such as the International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition, the International Computer Music Conference and the Conference on Interdisciplinary Musicology, and journal such as the Computer Music Journal. He has taught the courses Composing with Computers, Physics of Sound and Introduction to Music Technology at Northwestern University and Introduction to Computer Music, Machine Listening, Digital Synthesis Techniques and Electroacoustic Composition Techniques at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research interests include audio digital processing, computer music, composition, musical perception and cognition, new interfaces for musical expression and the musical applications of artificial intelligence. He recently wrote a book entitled "Introducción a la Música Computacional".
Rodrigo has won several grants and scholarships for artistic creation and research, among them the Beca Presidente de la República del Gobierno de Chile, Beca de Estudios Superiores Artísticos en el Extranjero y la Beca de Creación e Investigación Artística of Fundación Andes, Wonderlic y Wyatt grant from the School of Music of Northwestern University, CIRA (Center for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts), Studio 22 and Northwestern University Graduate School grants, and grants from the Fondo de Fomento de la Música Nacional and Fondo de Fomento Audiovisual of the Chilean Government. He has won several composition prizes as well, such as the Second Prize at the "Jorge Peña Hen" Composition Competition of the Fundación de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Chile, first prize (shared) at the 18° Composition Competition of the Music Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and the first composition prizes of the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation of Chicago in 2004 and 2005.
Rodrigo is a member of the American Music Center (AMC), the Society of Electroacoustic Music of the United States (Seamus), the International Computer Music Association (ICMA) and the Electroacoustic Community of Chile (Cech), institution of which he currently serves as General Coordinator. He is an assistant professor at the Music Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
