The serendipity of Life
At age six, Ava knew she wanted to be a singer and a psychiatrist. The latter goal evolved differently than planned when in the 1970''s she received extensive training in drug education, encounter groups, & sensitivity training, preparing her for a role as a drug abuse counsellor - and thus the fulfilment of one vision. Being in the this field of endeavour took Ava on a path of self discovery and a more spiritual journey followed. While always ready to break into song, the dream of being a singer didn''t materialize until she met Dennis in 1978.
From a very young age Dennis wanted to go into the priesthood, and while on a related course of study through high School and into college, his guitar, love for music and the influence of Paul Simon were never far away. His dream of the becoming a priest changed course at the height of the Viet Nam war, and in 1969 this sheltered young man was exposed to demonstrations, and the sex, drugs and rock & roll of that era. Dennis began his work in Hospitals, and by 1972 discovered treatment for alcoholics at Grant Hospital in Chicago where he met some key mentors who helped him discover his own path of spirit & self discovery.
In 1978 Ava & Dennis met and married a year and a half later.
Their new adventure together began in 1980 as they left the plains of the Midwest and ventured west to the mountains. Combining their passions for music, they began to sing together during their travels and they were happy. The funds ran out in Redmond Washington but not their good fortune as the first club they auditioned for, hired them. A short time later they were introduced to a booking agent and were ''on the road again'' as a country dance band travelling through the mountains of British Columbia. Faith, the optimism of youth, and their dreams were all they needed for this new journey, which four years later took them and a new baby to the wilderness of Alaska where they nestled in and made a home.
Substance abuse counselling, music, new friends, and the simple yet profound spiritualism of native Alaskans enabled Ava & Dennis to offer their music in a more fulfilling way. After ten years they moved to Hawaii in 1992, and two years later were back in Washington State. Eight more years playing in clubs, brought to an end a twenty year chapter in their lives and time for ''a new dream'' !
A few more struggles, two new careers, and their love of music now focused on spiritual and inspirational passions, again lead them forward with the realization of their first album of original music released in September of 2004. Personal appearances are now offered for church and concert venues together with sharing their music for workshops.
The things that unknowingly come together and lead us to the heights of our awareness on the path that is ours, are what Ava & Dennis have experienced together through music and their ever unfolding path of spirit.
