About the Artist and Album:
Barrie is a female performing singer/songwriter and pianist. Named after a French dancer, Barrie Chase, who danced with Fred Astaire, her destiny in the performing arts almost seemed pre-determined.
Originally from the east coast, Barrie received her degree in The Visual and Performing Arts from University of Maryland. She was also a Rosenberg Music Scholar recipient from Goucher College. Her main area of concentration was classical piano performance. Although signed to a few different independent labels in the mid 1990''s, it wasn''t until she focused independently on her career and her latest album that she really began to find her niche as an artist. Her most recent album, "Living On Borrowed Time" is a fusion of contemporary folk and light rock mixed with orchestration and sounds of the Middle East. Mixing all of this together works with Barrie''s contemporary vocals and gives this album its own unique sound.
"Living On Borrowed Time" was written over a period of several years. Back in the mid 90''s Barrie began setting current journalism and events poetically to music. In 1995, a featured song on this album, "Trapped" was written in remembrance of the victims of the Oklahoma City Bombing Incident. Several artists were featured with Barrie on this track including "The Musical Chairs", (vocal version), Bob DeWald, producer, and Jeff Ball, a Native American flutist. The initial lyrics to "Cries from the Countryside" and "What Have We Learned?" (featured on this album) were written about the human atrocities and tragedies in Bosnia and Sarajevo. After 9 11, Barrie''s writing continued with "America is One" featuring singer Jill Mann. Another song written after 9 11, "Heaven''s Tear" was recognized with an Editor''s Choice Award from The International Poetry Press in 2003. The lyric was presented at The Disney Orlando International Poetry Symposium, 2004. Barrie''s writing continued with addressing issues in the Middle East Conflict including speaking out against the suicide bombings in Israel and abroad and speaking up against terrorism and for the basic rights of all civilians. It is these writings that were collected over time and arranged into one album, "Living On Borrowed Time" to make one meaningful and strong international humanitarian statement to end terrorism and establish communication leading to peace.
Since the release of "Living On Borrowed Time" in late August, 2004, Barrie has started to perform live to promote the communication and humanitarian rights that she so strongly believes in. She is also in search of a playwright at this time to assist in incorporating the songs into a storyline for a musical. She ultimately sees herself as an "Elton John" or a "Vanessa Carlton" type of artist, sitting at a grand piano with an orchestra delivering great music concerts with intense meaning and emotional content.
