Details:
In the winter of 2006 the Open Bones banded together and started playing Post War Electric Rockin Juke Box Blues by the likes of Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry. They figured that the Beatles and Stones started with this American Music so why not see where it would lead the Open Bones. They became the house band at Casey’s Bar and Grill in South Minneapolis. Back in the corner, behind the pool tables, the Bones dug deep into the blues and started to jell as a band.

By the summer of 2007 the roots the Bones planted began to blossom into their own original songwriting. After further honing their sound as the house band for many Parkway Theatre Poetry Slams, they finally got around to recording their songs over a weekend in the fall of 2008. All vocals, leads, drum fills and intricate bass patterns were recorded live without any overdubs. You might hear a couple clunkers here and there but the music is as real as it gets.

The Open Bones are:

Phil Bayer – Vocals and acoustic guitar - Phil traipsed around the country for about 10 years with an outfit called the Modern Day Saints. He also released a CD in 2004 with a band named Hank and Ruth (sold at CDBaby) that was voted best band to break up by the Minneapolis City Pages.

Sid Gasner – Electric Guitar and Vocals - Sid has squandered the better part of his lifetime trying to get electrified strings to communicate something coherent! He has partnered with songwriters/performers Dennis Morgan, Larry Kegan, Larry Long, Jerry Rau, Leslie Ball and with jazz musicians Reynold Philipsek, Steve Yeager and Gregory Theisen.

Kevin Mummey – Drums, Percussion and Vocals – Kevin learned to play drums from his dad. Then he learned to play all kinds of other drums from other people’s dads. Now he is a dad who is teaching his own son how to play drums. He would have retired several years ago, except the Open Bones let him play whatever he feels like, and they don’t make him play in smelly bars to often.

Paul Tinjum – aka Per Laerdahl – Electric Bass Guitar – Paul has played with Flint, Like Wow, Street Talk, Back Beat, D.C. and the Active Jacks before finding a new home with
