This record took six years to make.
It grew from two group of demos I wrote in London between 2002 and 2003, merged into one a couple of years later when I found myself living in Melbourne with some time and space at my disposal. The first incarnation took shape by late 2005 after a ridiculous amount of hours in the studio, chasing the perfect record. I did nothing with it afterwards because I couldn’t listen to it anymore.
I forgot all about this record and finished my two EPs, ‘Lines’ and ‘Economy’ throughout 2006 and 2007 before really listening to it again. One by one I worked through them all again, trying to move closer to what I had always heard in my head and in late 2008 it was done. It will never be perfect but I am going to let it go now.
‘Orphan Train Project’ is an intricate and meticulous experimental pop album. It tells the story of two parallel Australian lives from adolescence to adulthood and explores themes of experience, social isolation, growth and resolution. The songs incorporate folk, pop and electronica.
