This disc is a musical autobiography of the life and times of the artist captured in snap shots of tonal colour. From the main garden of Philly''s days of the "Live Show Band", this artist shows that "da Funk aint dead".
The influences go from Trane to Sun-Ra to Return to Forever and Horace Silver. This "Bendoré", like "Prince" in the way that all the instruments are played by one guy. Out of frustration, he went and got the gear, wrote the songs, and recorderd them and the end product is peaceful, respectful, and soothing.
And guests artist Rob Howell transcends the track he plays on. Rob is also a Philly native and has hada stint with The Posmontier Brothers. And the inexperienced debut of Cynthia Reed-Raymond gives it a slightly raw edge.
If you put on this CD, you''ll forget it''s even on, because the music is like natural noise.
The stint with a Miami salsa band gave him his Afro-Cuban polyrhythmics. The warm light colour of sound comes from that region. Two songs on the disc come from his time in Miami; Biscayne Blvd. and Collins Ave.
