Let''s say you have been actively immersed in Norwegian folk fiddling for over twenty
five years. Meeting and learning from some of the best of Norway''s tradition bearers,
playing for endless dances and performances, rehearsing several nights a week, even
finding your life partner. What now? You should pass on some of that experience!
Here is such a CD, spanning a variety of Norwegian dance types and regional styles. The
majority of tracks (22 of 32) feature the Hardanger fiddle, the "national instrument" of
Norway. And a point not to be missed, the tracks are laid down with the dancer in mind.
Practical uses of this CD could include dance classes, rehearsals of your performing
dance group, or just to do a springar in the living room. Be warned, this CD exceeds 75
minutes.
Two Seattle area organizations which have been "instrumental" influences behind this project are Skandia Folkdance Society and the performing
Norwegian dance group Leikarringen of Leif Erikson (Sons of Norway lodge in Ballard).
Each provide ample opportunity for musicians to develop and maintain their skills. And
my pesonal kick start came from native Norwegian Hardanger fiddler Ingulv Eldegaard back
in the eighties, with sessions that fused fiddling with fish dinner.
Although this is a solo CD, my real joy in music comes from the synergy of playing with
others. Look for me whenever/wherever Hale Bill and the Bopps has a gig.
Have a wonderful day and keep listening, dancing, and playing.
Bill Boyd
