“I never wanted to be
the one you think you see
''cause no one is the real me.”
-from ‘Anything’ by Brion Snyder

Writing a press bio can be a daunting assignment. Piled high with clichés and platitudes, bios require the reader to suspend disbelief and welcome yet another undiscovered sensation to an overcrowded party. Few recent arrivals however have honed their skills as thoroughly as singer/songwriter Brion Snyder.

Build Another Empire is Brion Snyder’s debut album. Snyder, who departed the rolling hills of North Carolina for New York City, has accompanied eccentric rockers like Johnny Society and cosmic/folk superstar Joseph Arthur on the road and in the studio. An accomplished bandleader, Brion’s former outfit, Hipbone, was a big draw in the college towns of the southeastern U.S. By 2002 Brion decided he had other fish to fry and headed north, landing a publishing deal as a songwriter with Warner/Chappell in the process.

Build Another Empire is an ambitious and decidedly pop album, blending Snyder’s soul, folk and funk influences with forward looking production, honest songwriting and an unapologetic view of the American landscape. Musically diverse, Empire is held together by Brion’s impassioned vocals, classic melodies and sophisticated arrangements that fit neatly alongside artists ranging from Bill Withers to Beck.

The album speaks to a lost generation about isolation, living in America under a ‘corporate-ocracy’, love lost and gained, and the continual struggle for self discovery. Accompanying Brion are album producer/guitarist/vocalist Kenny Siegal (Johnny Society, Joseph Arthur), bassist Tim Luntzel (Norah Jones, Bright Eyes) and drummer Robert ‘Chicken’ Burke (George Clinton, P-Funk). With musical roots running every which way, the cast are equally comfortable spinning country inflected gems from “You Did Us In” to the barely harnessed fury of “You’re What’s Wrong With America.”

When asked to describe his music, Snyder simply describes it as ‘pop music with integrity; heartfelt and effortless.''
