Remember where you came from...Sometimes, we just do what we do without giving thanks to those who made us what we are...My mother made me think that I was smart...and so, I am intelligent...She always complimented my ability to solve life''s problems so I rarely am faced with anything I consider as insurmountable...You can do anything if you believe you can! My brothers often support me mentally by letting me know that I was always ''special''. I was lucky to be around one of the best musicians of all time, Virgil Patterson...He taught me that "if you can''t dance to it, it isn''t a song"!
Basically, you need people to believe in you...No one stands alone. Life is a collective effort from all of us.
Falaniko Ioane let me know that macho guys like me could also be sensitive and poetic...He and Ken Tyler showed me that you never put down your ''friends'' with sarcasm or ''constructive criticism''...When was the last time someone offered their ''honest opinion'' and said something nice? They use the term ''honest opinion'' to justify hurting your feelings. I hope you have real friends like I do!
My father was a runaway,...We had to adjust to that. At One point in my life, I thought my father was useless in my life...Now I know he was there for a reason...
One day, a mob of angry ghetto kids encouraged two children to fight me, two on one. With quick footing, I eluded the crowd and fled home...My father was hanging out at my house as he was there on one of his rare visits. I was scared, panting and relieved as I entered the door of the domicile.
My father noticed the degree of my panic and inquired about the nature of the dilemna I was in..."Th-There''s a bunch of kids chasing me and-and I (breathing hard) got away!!!"
"Why are they chasing you?", he asked..."They want me to fight Floyd and Bernard.", I nervously answered. He asked,
"That''s all?"...I said "Yep!". "Well, we''re gonna have to go back down there and face those boys."
(Gulp)"We are?", I shakily responded. "Yeah, we definitely need to go back!", he insisted. He told me that losing the fight was not an option and if I let them beat me up, he would beat me again when we returned home.
So, we went back to the angry mob and I beat those two guys like ugly step children! I was happy with my victory. My father never complimented me on my triumphs in similar situations...He wanted me to think that living up to your ''challenges'' was normal...not ''special''...This way you can normally be strong and resilient to life''s tests and trials.
I thought he was crazy for pushing me into impossible scenarios like that but he was teaching me that a man has to defend himself, no matter what the odds...You can''t refuse to battle just because it seems inevitable that you will lose...Take on the fight, you might surprise yourself!
I am not a violent person, so my battles in life are generally business related...I don''t let strong opposition discourage me! In fact, with a challenge, I might gain interest...I love becoming successful subsequent to being told that I can''t do it!!!
THIS ALBUM IS A COMPLETE TREASURE! The first song is a beautiful composition entitled "Proud To Be American"...
I became American on September 11th, 2001!!!
Being Black in America is tough because there are so many racists. There are people who don''t want you to date their non-Black daughters, there are people who don''t want you to date their Black daughters!!! HATE is the American way! They hate the immigrants, they hate the gays, they hate Blacks, they hate Mexicans...Now, they hate ''terrorists'', which is described as anyone who doesn''t
fit the description of the ''All-American Boy'',...blond hair and blue eyes!...However, on 9/11, the HATE subsided for a few days...We mourned for each other,...We were nicer to each other...We were humanitarians as we healed...We felt closer to each other...There was love everywhere in America!
"I became American that day!"
The second track on the album is "Two more Days ''Til Xmas"...It is truly a delightful Christmas song that asks for World Peace.
"Last Call For Love" is a bartender''s warning to a lonely customer at 2:00 AM..."A Lover''s Work Is Never Done"
describes the hard work of satisfying a loved one..."Making Love" is the disco story of a prostitute who works to support her child..."Baby, Baby" is an uptempo rap/singing tune that emphasizes that that is what I want to be.
"It Almost Feels Like Love" features very soothing vocal harmonies..."Who''s Your Daddy?" asks that question..."Power To The People" envisions a world without polititians.
Have you ever been mesmerized by the mysterious and beautiful "Girl Next Door"?
"Fake ID" is about a seventeen year old kid who is fascinated by what he thinks goes on in nightclubs and bars.
"I Love Her To The Bone" discusses the many imperfections that a woman might have yet you are still hopelessly in love with her.
I hope you like this CD as much as I do!!! Remember, I write the music for you...Thank you very much for your kind words of encouragement!!! Thank you for continuing to buy my music...It is a pleasure creating for you!!!
