Solo composer; a "soulmate" of all melodic sounds; an advocate of total self-containment artistically, ala Prince, his all-time favorite artist. These are just a few descriptions of Charles La Vett Rand---artist, and lover of all styles of music, ranging from jazz 2 r&b, rock, alternative, new age, soul, funk, folk, reggae, instrumental---basically any style that favors strong melodies and grooves. Charles'' musical journey "religiously" began at the end of 1988, nearly 16 years ago. This journey has taken him through 3 different music groups (singing, rapping, dancing, and writing lyrics), while still composing solo compositions on the side. He also tried his hand at being a solo singer, but through all of his ups and downs, trials and tribulations, embarassments and humiliations---Charles discovered that his strong point was lyrics and composition---as well as performing as well---just not singing. He also tried his hand at acting for a brief period 2, and while he discovered another hidden talent (and got great response when performing) it wasn''t his heart''s passion. So Charles continued to compose alone, with most who knew him totally oblvious 2 this. On the surface, Charles appeared 2 be abandoning music, and life al2gether, seemingly just "drifting" through the days, trying a myriad of jobs and practices (such as chanting in buddhism---but does not continue 2day; studying new age practices like numerology, astrology, the tarot, personality typing systems, colors, auras, etc.), all in a valiant attempt 2 "find" himself. A very potent 3 1/2 year codependent "love" affair, that ended very sourly in the mid 1990''s, was also life changing 4 Charles, and actually was the catalyst 4 the extensive soul searching journey into self-help books (ala the New Age topics mentioned previously), actual counseling once a week for 8 months at 1 point, the buddhist chanting, the A.R.T.S. Anonymous meetings (just picture Alcoholics Anonymous 4 blocked artists), and the extremely deep depression that accompanied his self discovery. Regardless of how bleak things looked on the outside, Charles still remained true to his music, religiously practicing his keyboards 5 to 7 days a week, and composing God-given tunes, as well as recording them, whether he was in the mood 2 or not. After years and years of struggle, trying 2 get some "important" music executive to sign him, or 2 recognize his talent, Charles came 2 a point where he really didn''t even desire a deal anymore. This CD that u have now really created itself. It was not in the "plans" at all. Charles only recorded a CD, originally, just 2 do away with the hissing sound of a demo tape, but after asking the Universe over and over and over again 4 the right person 2 find him, or 4 him 2 find them, he realized that he could take his music directly 2 the people, who''ve always supported Charles'' music that they''ve heard.
