Written over a period of six months in spare time, nights, weekends between working.
In some respects the ideas jelled really well. At the time of doing it, I still had an M1 which had some great sounds on it.
There is more electric 12 string on this than later stuff and somehow, guitar- written songs constructed around chords have got a more rocky feel to them than keyboard chords. Also the accents are different.
The first piece (Hathor) is dedicated to the Egyptian goddess Hathor. There is a lovely Korg synth sound on this one. The piece has a central theme.
The second piece Amun-Re has a Carlos Santana feel to it or at least it is supposed to since I am a great fan.
Ennead (the great council of nine gods) is written in three
parts. Here I used the electric 12 string to try and give it some backbone.
''Tamarisk'' and ''Lapis Lazuli'' are two of my favourites on it. The M1 is still a classic and is featured on both of these .
All day myself and Wayne Dunn, a well known drummer/songwriter from Harrogate worked on the drum/guitar parts of ''Anthem from 34''.
Eventually we got it. I had some chords and said to Wayne, lets try this.
Second take, in the bag ''Sundance'' His Sonor kit sounds like he is playing in your front room.
Most of the drum sound was recorded with a battery-powered Sony walkman mike pre-amped with an old Teac two track reel to reel before going into the mixer.
Improvisation! and success. (more later when I can think of anything remotely interesting)
