listening to it now its an even better album than I remember.
When I first came across Crow studios, I was a young flit of a girl with her head firmly stuck up her own arse and an an unhealthy obsession for shoes and handbags.
My only saving grace was a genuine love of music and singing.
The second band i had joined had aspirations to "make it"
and so promotional recordings were required and we headed out to the black hills of Hambleton to find a disused goat shed snuggled against the side of an ancient valley. This was "Crow Studios".
The place moved me immediately, it changed me immediately
and I believe that is when the truth entered in.
Over a period of many years, much music was made at this goat shed, many lives were changed, many friends were made and lost but the enduring quality has remained - the sound
of Crow Studios.
The "king pin" of the whole scene, Jack Flash ( crow44),
has a stubborn reticence to give in to the commercial dhiorreah that fills the airwaves. He embraces the World Wide Web as a way of over riding the ''Big guys'' and their monopoly and killing the Rock and Roll.
This is so clear in his music
and his indescribable ability to weave musicians of all kinds of fields and abilities. Not all tracks on the album are ''first takes''- but I bet they aren''t far off because Jack loves the Buzz of the undeniable truth entering in the listeners ears.
When you sit down to listen to this album knowing what you do now, you will be able to define the subliminal things that you could "hear". It is quite simply, people and musicians playing straight from the heart.
For me,the most incredible track on the album, is ''Moonchild'' - This is a prime example of a ''first take''.
Jack laid down the guitar on an old Studer A80 8 track 1"
that he had bought from Adrian Juste, the old Radio 1 DJ
and there was left, a strange sound of a cafe clearing away glasses and people talking in the background. Peculiar?
yes, but it works with the strange mixture of the lyrics and funky guitar, so Jack decided to leave it on. Iwent in the boothand just listened the one time all the way through the song, and then just sang out the words as they arrived in my head.
With only a few adjustments to organise a chorus - that was ''Moonchild'' laid down.
The song,is basically a daughter''s cry to be accepted for who she is and not to be criticized for experiencing the "mysteries of life, love and rock and roll".
There are many songs on the album that evoke a feeling of places remembered deep in the imagery of our minds... a rare and difficult thing to do under contrivance, but Jack''s approach allows all these "Feelin'' flows" to emerge
and enter your own thoughts and feelings.
Not all of the feelings we had at the time were all good. The song ''Need your love'' was written by me in the mid throws of post-natal depression, and will be to me, a testament to the pain and disillusionment of self-discovery
....we are not always what we think we are. However, 12 years down the line, I can look at that song and cherish it
as a reliable source of information and a truly beautiful moment in time.
''Dream sowing'' and ''Celeste'' were also written in and around that period of time, when thankfully, there was more "light" atthe end of the tunnel!!!! ''Celeste'' especially has the most unusual drumbeat I have ever, or since heard on a song, and it really will stay with you
for a very long time!! again, tracks were laid down by different musicians all of whom are credited and thanked for their fantastic talents.
As for me, life has pulled me in a different direction to where I thought I would be, musically, I am interested in the more traditional side of music. I''m still performing and although I haven''t recorded the many songs I''ve got,
Jack Flash is constantly in the background, telling me, no, screaming at me to get it down. So who knows, it might not be too long before the nexxt swarm of musicians begin to dance deosil around the hive of Crow Studios and the truth once more will "ENTER IN".
I sincerely hope that you not only enjoy this album, but that you will actively seek out bands and businesses like ''Crow Studios'' who are genuinely trying to gowith the FLOW, not coin it in.
