The southern rock & contemporary country music of the gulf coast region greatly influences this group of local musicians.
Cypress has been busy in the studio as well as performances including the Pleasure Island Music Festival, local clubs and events as well as working in Houston and southwest Louisiana. Their variety of music styles as well as some innovative originals facilitates making Cypress entertaining to an assortment of crowds.
"This CD is one of those things that seems like it took forever to complete, even though it was only about 3 months," said Clay Grant. "We went into the studio with a plan. Of course since then we have had to change the plan a few times. One of the main things we learned was never write new songs while you are in the process of recording. Never, never, never. We ended up putting two of the new songs on the CD which slowed down the process a little, but we think it will be worth it in the long run."
"It worked out for the best though, I think." pointed out Mike Foulch, "We ended up with a variety of songs that express who we are. Originally, we had planned on including one or two songs that were not written by us. By the time we included the new songs, we had more than enough original material for this project." According to bass player Michael Gross, "The bad part was knowing that you were going into the studio to record a song you heard for the first time maybe 2 weeks ago. That will make you a little stressed."
People keep asking us what style of music we play," said Randall Roberts, "We all grew up listening to different things, from Gene Pitney to Pink Floyd and everything in between. The best reference I have heard is Gumbo Rock, primarily a rock feel with a little of whatever sounds good to fill it out until it''s just right."
