MP3 Deja Voodoo - Human Friend

If The Beach Boys wrote songs about weird movies, driving in New Jersey and watching TV, and made it all sound like a good dream about girls, that would be this CD

POP: Quirky, FOLK: Folk Pop

Details:
I usually try my best to describe my music as "Suess-pop", since Dr. Suess was my original inspiration as a reader/writer. I guess I just never got over that initial hit! I have had several bands where I served as chief songwriter and have always felt lucky to find friends who enjoyed working on and playing my songs. Though I have played the clubs in both New York City and New Jersey, I more often would stage little events, including dancers, poetry and art shows...the idea being "the more the merrier" and also just the fact that I enjoy juxtaposition in art...mixing it all up! I think of life, as well as art, as a special event. My latest project (and my first CD) is by Deja Voodoo,a solo project from top to bottom. Some of my prior bands were named "Shadow America", "Hi-Ho Trigger!" and "The Enormous Squeeks"...is there a pattern in all this?? Will you please let me know??

Though I enjoy all the large structuralists in composition and songwriting, like Bela Bartok, David Bowie, Brian Wilson or John Coltrane, I really gravitate towards the simple and "sing-songy" in my own writing, and then try my best to arrange it well to complement and support that simplicity. I am being very serious when I say that one of my major epiphanies as a musician and human being came with that Little Rascals episode where the Gang try to get on the radio show and have to wait until all the rich kids who had lessons had their chance first. Finally the Gang gets to play with their makeshift Scotch-taped-together DIY instruments, performing "The Man On The Flying Trapeze" (my favorite song), and of course...they win the hearts of the audience and also the contest. That story, and the fact that I consider Alfalfa the "real original" punk rocker, with his totally open, sweet, naive, untrained and heartfelt human voice, gives an open window into who I am as a musician.
