Born in Niagara Falls, NY and raised in Baltimore, MD, this Singer/Songwriter recalls the summer talent shows hosted for family & friends in which she and her siblings would perform original pieces they had authored.
Her sojourn through the arts has come full circle.
Creative expression thru ....dance....acting....writing...fashion.
Only to once again return to music.
In 1987, Deidre was invited to sing with "Josh", a local pop artist and has continued performing with various local artists such as Sonia, Sandy Wells and James Hambric, just to name few.
In 1989, she decided to go solo with the "Noah" project, performing a "45" minute program of original works at 125th Street Mart in Harlem. The audience''s enthusiasm proved she was on the right track. Since that time, Deidre Harston Dennis has performed at Nells, Tatou,Sony Plaza for NuBreed as well as the Children''s Aid Societys'' Black Tie Gala.
In 1997, she was recruited to sing background vocals for the popular rap group "Organized Confusion" on a single entitled Decisions, featured on the Warner Brothers America is Dying Slowly compilation CD to benefit AIDs research.
Most recently, she was named a semi-finalist in ASCL"s
(Association of Songwriters, Composers and Lyricists) national songwriting competition for her work entitled "Soul Recipe".
In 2001 while visiting Edinburgh, Scotland, her hosts'' were duly impressed with her demo and requested several copies for their collections.
Though Deidre Harston Dennis is often compared to Sade, Phyllis Hyman & Cassandra Wilson, her fans readily admit that she possesses a unique style all her own.
