Details:
DMZ//38 features influences ranging from hard rock to hip-hop, post-punk and metal. Based out of Los Angeles, DMZ//38 was one of the first Korean rappers in the U.S. as co-founder/producer of Fists of Fury in the early 90''s. Fists of Fury gained national and international acclaim for their efforts to improve inter-ethnic relations in the wake of the LA riots. Prior to that, he was drummer for the band UghUghUgh, an early member of the Black Rock Coalition.
Lead vocalist and composer DMZ//38 is classically trained in voice, percussion, piano and violin. To the delight of his parents, at age 14 he was lead Violin for the All-County Orchestra in Fairfax, Virginia. He is also a graduate of Columbia University.
The name DMZ//38 refers to the De-Militarized Zone separating the Republic of Korea (South) and the Democratic Peoples'' Republic of Korea (North) from the end of the Korean War in 1953 to the present day. The DMZ, located roughly at the 38th Parallel (longitude), cuts a swath through the most heavily militarized region on the planet, an area former President Bill Clinton referred to as the "scariest place on Earth."
