THE HILL-CLIMBING YEARS
Emmett Hopkins grew up in Sonoma County, California, where he began writing songs while walking up his hilly driveway, after the school bus dropped him off on Eastside Road every afternoon. Some of these songs sounded like coca-cola jingles, with brilliant lyrics such as "The leaves are always yellow, the grass is always green, the sky is always blue, and the devil''s always mean." Others mimicked the angry hard rock music that Emmett occasionally heard on the radio but knew nothing about, with profound lyrics such as "The world is a bore, nothing else to see or do, I''ve done it all and now I''m through." Yes, truly amazing lyrics.
THE WORRISOME YEARS
Emmett''s inspiration grew and he continued inventing lyrics and melodies through junior high and into high school. The endless and ever growing patchwork of songs began to fill his head night and day. His social skills dwindled, his personal hygiene out of control. His family became concerned. In a desperate measure, Emmett was sent to boarding school as an attempt to salvage his future, and save him from the vices of excessive song.
THE BOARDING SCHOOL YEARS
The jaws of music had taken hold too firmly. At the boarding school called Thacher, Emmett explored the music world academically, aided by generous communications from experienced musicians and songwriters such as Dave Brubeck, Steve Lacy, Van Dyke Parks, and Molly Ann Leikin. His Senior Exhibition, entitled "Addictive Sounds: What Makes a Catchy Song?", included numerous sound clips and musical theories presented to a packed house of students and faculty.
ACHIEVEMENTS
2000
Emmett''s "Seatbelt" lyrics won a runner''s up prize in Grammy award-winning songwriter Molly-Ann Leikin''s international songwriting contest.
2001
Emmett logged his first recordings, "Watching You" and "Bluebird", in the Thacher electronic music room on his 4-track tape recorder. At Stanford University, Emmett continued recording and began performing in small venues.
2002
Emmett produced "The Itchy Album", his debut compilation of original material. The feature track, "The Poison Oak Song", has won fans internationally, from the Bay Area''s Hash House Harriers drinking and runnning club, to an unexpected audience of Danish teenagers.
2003
The album, "Living on Mars", is an expanded version of "The Itchy Album", including 19 tracks entirely composed and performed by Emmett.
Songs "Bluebird", "Cold shower-warm beer", and "Cold shower-dark room" have received radio air-time on KZSU radio.
2004
Emmett has produced "The Paris Collection", an online selection of songs written during Emmett''s 3-month stay in Paris, France.
Emmett put out the election-season satire: "Bush Tush Push". The "Bush Tush Push" is a hip-gyrationification fest, in which George Bush leads an aerobics workout routine.
WHERE IS EMMETT NOW?
Emmett is currently finishing his school work at Stanford University, where he studies environmental sciences and urban planning. He wants you to listen to his songs, buy his CD, and propel him to world celebrity so that he will no longer have to write about himself in the third person, but will have an entourage to do it for him.
