MP3 Granville - Feather & Heart

Americana

16 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Americana, POP: Beatles-pop

Details:
Open sky and big horizons, a steel guitar note soaring above. A breath, a passion, the atmosphere of Granville. The appeal of singer songwriter Brian Myers imparts through thoughtful introspective honesty.

"Take me by the hand. Show me all the places you like to go. Take me while you can. We may be here tomorrow, or maybe not. We''re waltzing in the light of dawn. We flicker in the light, then we''re gone."

Granville as a band combines elements of roots Americana music, this style of blending pop, country, rock and folk. Myers'' writing echoes influences from Floyd to Beatles to Bowie to Neil Young. These are songs you feel you know the first time you hear them. His writing for Granville brings out the American roots elements in the music that influenced him. "Modern rock music has been most interesting to me when you can hear regional styles of music influencing each other. The British Invasion brought American roots styles to the forefront of pop music, because of British musician''s desire to imitate these styles and do them in their own way. My generation grew up with this infused mix of styles, but everything we heard was really built on American roots music. I like to dig down to the root of those sounds and styles because there is something potent there at the source, We all respond to the music we feel."

Travel across the landscape of Feather & Heart, Granville''s debut release. With Brian Myers'' vocals and guitar, Butch Burrows on pedal steel, and bottleneck guitar, Sam Stilwell on percussion; accompanied by Zak Mabie on bass. Recorded at Zax Trax studios, and with additional production by Emdot.

This is a wide ranging collection of songs from driving rock, to western, to honky tonk blues, to mellow folk. But the connecting thread through all these styles are the rich melody and harmony of the vocals, and the sweet swells from the pedal steel guitar and bottle neck slides which keep the sound rooted in the new west. The album opens with the Warm Dark, a song that celebrates the escape of dreaming, and has the psychedelic country feel of Pink Floyd before the Dark Side. Seven Things is a great demonstration of Granville''s unplugged ability, with vocals sliding along with the bottle neck guitar leads. Harder is a powerful ballad of a man fixated on a past fantasy, a song that will haunt you long after you''ve heard it. This is a generous collection of sixteen tracks, and is a great introduction to this new band.

Brian Myers: Vocals, Guitar, Hammond B3, Accordion, Bass

Butch Burrows: Pedal Steel Guitar, Bottle Neck Guitar

Zak Mabie: Bass, Upright Bass, Fretless Bass, Additional Guitar, Fiddle

Sam Stilwell: Drums
