Details:
Jay Hails is a vital Saskatoon songwriter and performer. He has made his mark on the Canadian music scene with heartfelt, literate, confessional, catchy songs in the vein of Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, and the guy who wrote that Juicy Fruit chewing gum jingle.

Jay spent the 90''s in an incendiary folk-rock blur, leading Saskatchewan''s two most influential Celtic rock bands, The Ecchoing Green and the drowned. Since 2000, he has been performing and recording as a solo artist, backed by a folk-influenced rock band of Saskatchewan musicians, featuring guitars, lush violin, and rich piano sounds. His live show has a way of drawing audiences closer; Jay has riveted crowds of all ages at folk festivals, coffeehouses, and rock venues from Vancouver to Toronto. He''s shared stages with the likes of Barenaked Ladies, the Waltons and Jay Semko. He''s released cd''s to national critical acclaim, received video airplay on Much Music and CMT, and been featured across Canada on both CBC TV and radio.

Jay says he finds his greatest inspiration in secondhand bookstores and in the bad weather of his home province. His latest cd, No One Knows I''m Famous, is being released in the summer of 2005.

What the critics are saying about Jay Hails...

"Stunningly melodic, achingly beautiful sounds... combine a commercial sensibility with alternative integrity."
Impact Music, Toronto

"The music is infectious, deeply moving and intimate. Reality and fantasy are woven into the harshness and beauty of the world in which we live."
The Prairie Dog, Regina

"Jay Hails has been inspired by the literary works of folks like Oscar Wilde, William Blake, and Milan Kundera. These influences explain Hails''s capacity to stretch excruciatingly honest lyrics across aching melodies... Remember the name: you''ll be hearing it often."
Chart Magazine, Toronto

"The songs here are about love in general, specific, and even vague terms - just don''t call ''em love songs. Jay Hails'' literary credentials add more to his band than the self-conscious ironies of Brad Roberts do to the Crash Test Dummies."
Soundscape Magazine, Saskatoon

"His compositions... have the uncanny ability of appearing simultaneously familiar and fresh. While the songs'' lyrics can stand alone as thought-provoking poetry, when combined with the polished and heartfelt playing, Hails''s compositions take on an almost otherworldly life of their own."
SOMA Journal, Saskatoon

"A cohesive musical force capable of weaving a gentle, poignant spell or melodic intense rock & roll, while lyrically a wealth of human insight is shared."
Ness Creek Journal, Saskatchewan
