Details:
The Fossil Aerosol Mining Project began in the early 1980s as a loose-knit group of artists and collectors interested in exploring and harvesting the damaged remains of late 20th century popular culture. The project began producing audio recordings in 1983, using literal “found sounds” such as fragments of open reel 1/4” tape and 35mm film recovered from burnt out warehouses and abandoned drive-in theaters. The earliest compositions involved physical tape loops and analog signal processes, which were gradually replaced by digital delay treatments and multi-track manipulation.

"Environmental Adjustments" was produced in the spring of 1997 using environmental recordings (made years earlier) that were subjected to multi-channel treatments recorded and mixed live. Five of these tracks were edited and remastered from two hours of live mixes. An additional track, PAC 7:31PM, is an outtake from an unreleased 1987 recording. These are more transparent, slower-moving pieces – think Eno’s "On Land", contaminated and mutated.
