It’s been a little over 5 years since our first band formation came into effect. This formation would dedicate its first few months of 2003 to rehearse and present a show performing Guns n’ Roses covers, taking advantage of Javier Griner’s voice and Marcos’ Les Paul skills.
It was year filled with work which left us with many live gigs under our belt, as well as three original recorded songs and several more ideas for additional pieces. Those three songs were Day, Shadow and Dark Bridges’ first version. We also gave several interviews and unplugged shows in different radios.
With our singer’s migration to Canada, we started what we soon discovered to be an impossible task, finding a singer that could hit those high notes, sang in English and who we got along with and saw eye-to-eye musically. That’s how most of 2004 passed us by.
After several failed trials we came upon Facundo Arias, Marcos’ life-long friend, to help us with the vocals and also, seeing as we needed a drummer, we recruited another old friend Matías Guerisoli(this one Pablo’s friend), who would be in charge of hammering away at those drum patches, replacing Alejandro Filippini. From this second formation, that jammed together through the end of 2004 and part of 2005, only one song endured: Loosing my only Star.
Come 2005’s waning, our rhythmic guitarist Esteban Aguilera decides to leave the band. Seeing as we couldn’t find a singer, we decided to take up singing and work on the vocals ourselves, thus finalizing what would be our third formation and our first as a trio.
Halfway through 2006 Martín Toblli joins as a drummer (thus our fourth band formation), and together we finalize the arrangements for the songs written up to this point. The songs would be recorded by our friend Julián Barrett from the last few months of 2006 to the beginning of 2007, along with their respective videos.
In the next 6 months the band works on a year-old idea that was stored in our collective band-brain, a jam session that would result in the song Black River. What at first looked like a simple and short song began to discover within itself a potential that culminated in a song that passed the 11-minute marker, evolving into a series of rhythmic variations. After recording this last song, Martín decides to quit the band.
Through the last few months of the year 2007, we decide to record one more song and its video, one that required only guitar, voice and cello (beautifully executed by Mariana Levitín). Its name: What came along.
At the start of 2008 we decide to record Loosing my only star (of which there was no decent recording, to say the least) with the help of two of the band’s friends: Martín Toblli in drums, and Alejandro Corres in vocals, who is still working alongside us today. Alejandro also rerecorded Dark Bridges’ vocals, as well as implementing some new lyrics.
With the exception of Jump and Walking, all other songs were recorded in “Mataco” Studios by Marcelo Valerga, who was instrumental in finishing this entire process thanks to his patience and production talent.
Having the 8 songs that would make up our first record, we looked at where we could masterize the material to make some sense of it all and give it some continuity. For this task we chose Andrés Mayo.
Yes, it´s been over five-and-a-half years during which everything fell apart time and again. This is why, if Abyss Falling exists, it’s only because of a shared vision that was obstinately held with stubbornness and resilience. It speaks of a waking dream, an ordeal of two, with many friends helping along the way and believing in our music.
We hope to give something back to the world of Rock Music in this, our first record.
