Slash Coleman is an award winning playwright, performer, artist, educator, surfer, and musician best known for his one-man show, “The Neon Man and Me,” which ran Off-Broadway in 2007 and is now a PBS special.
Blending classic Americana with jazz, The Neon Man and Me Soundtrack consists of the six songs that comprise Coleman’s award-winning show. Awarded The Groucho for best one man show in 2005, his production chronicles the loss of his best friend after a tragic and untimely death. His friend, Mark Jamison, a neon artist, from Roanoke, VA was blown into a power line while hanging a neon sign. A month after his death, Jamison’s girlfriend discovered she was pregnant. Coleman created the show as a care package to the Jamison family.
So far, his production has toured the country four times and has helped raise over $50,000 for non-profits around the country. Now, thanks to the National Endowment for the Arts, it includes a public school curriculum called “Healing Community – Helping Students Come to Terms with Tragedy, Loss, and Violence.”
