"I love you, too." These life changing words have been singing in my head for many years now. From a very young age I have always had a great desire to know Him intimately. I remember lying in bed at the age of 8, crying to my mom, "I want to hear God like you do. What do I do to hear Him?" She answered me simply, "Just tell Him you love Him and then wait quietly before Him and listen." I can clearly remember the moment of His response. "I love you, too." These words birthed in me a deep desire for Him that will never fade.
I first realized my love for music in Jr. High. In eighth grade I took a "worship team class," and it was then that I also began taking guitar lessons from the Worship Pastor at our church. Through his wonderful encouragement and inspiration, as well as the time spent in my worship team class, I learned what it meant to be a worship leader. I then went on to become part of my youth group''s worship team in High school and also began writing songs. I got my first opportunity to lead worship at youth group my sophomore year, and it changed me forever. That''s when I truly realized that God''s calling on my life was to minister to people through music. I began to pray that the Lord would use me to impassion His children.
My first concert took place at the end of my senior year of high school. Through that experience, I met Chris Duffey, probably the biggest influence on the technical aspect of my music. Chris and I have done various small venue, acoustic style concerts since. He has been an amazing mentor and friend, and is the reason I''ve been able to begin recording. We have worked together on recording both the live concert, "Surrender," and the studio album, "Light My Skies." Having the opportunity to learn from his multifaceted musical talents, as well as his production skills have helped further me into the musician that I believe God has called me to be.
Psalms 19:14 reads: "Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Oh Lord, my strength and my redeemer". I pray with everything in me that the music God has put inside my heart, the strings that are played and the words that are sung will speak to people and draw them closer to Christ. I pray that this music will usher people into the presence of God, and inspire them to a closer, more passionate intimacy with their Creator. Let me not be seen, but rather my Father who lives in me. Lord, that I would be a window for you to shine through.
