The fifth full-length CD from Mandible Chatter finds the enigmatic duo exploring their British Folk and Pop roots.
The original idea was to record a "magical folk" album, in the time-honored tradition of Donovan and the Incredible String Band.
But their experimental past crept back in, haunting songs like "The Grape Scrubber''s Lament" with an eerie ambience.
Childlike folk songs sit side by side with straight out rockers like "Hurricane." Borrowed texts from William Butler Yeats and Eugene Field give way to cryptic lyrics about lizards and trampolines.
A dark and dreamy version of the old Count Five classic "Psychotic Reaction" is also tossed into the musical melting pot of Marigolds.
Mandible Chatter offer 15 excursions into melody and singular whimsy; a festive but occasionally dark carnival for children of all ages.
