Bluegrass music was born in the mid-1940''s. Built on traditional origins, it was new music, the brainchild of Bill Monroe, but articulated by the extraordinary musicians at his side. At the time, Bluegrass was commercial music -- one band''s way to distinguish itself, make a buck and stay in business. In music, this happens all the time, but rarely is that new sound such a fertile seed that such a mammoth genre grows from it.

He effortlessly delivers these songs mainly because he wrote most of them. In classic Bluegrass fashion, many of the songs are drawn from his own experience, are realised vicariously, or are carefully chosen to express his own perspective on the music.
