"Get In The Way"- Westword review: Although New Dialectic is named for a form of polemics, "Get In The Way" eschews heated exchanges for a more intellectually stimulating brand of discourse. The EP proves that smarts and subtlety are more than capable of trumping hysteria. Vocalist/keyboardist Joanna Pane and singer/guitarist Thomas DeLong, who front the band, have similar attributes. They''re both clear-eyed and straightforward, whether they''re trading lines, as they do in "Like I Said," or holding down center-stage solo in "What I Wanted," a strong showcase for Pane, or "What Is There," a DeLong-crooned number that sports angular riffing and a notably hooky chorus. The duo is ably assisted by bassist Juli Royster and drummer John Willhoite, whose nimble rhythms help the unexpectedly propulsive "Let''s Go" reach the finish line.
