Brian Wagetsu Franklin has been studying with Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin for over seven years.
This is first album of the Honkyoku (original pieces for the shakuhachi). These pieces were played by the Komuso (Buddist Medicant monks).
These Monks would in their travels not verbally pray for the person that gave them mony or food but play certain prescribed songs for them to help them with their worries and troubles.
Brian Wagetsu Franklin is now a licensed teacher at the level of Jun-shihan. There are only a handful of people in the Unnited States that have taken the long journey to become licensed. Within the world scene very few westerners have been licensed.
My hope for the future is that I will be able to teach the present and next generation so that they will keep the shakuahachi alive. The Japanese Traditional Bamboo Flute.
