Details:
Singer and songwriter Beth Black is a native Texan, but her musical roots are nationwide. She attended Walnut Hill Performing Arts High School in New England , college in Washington D.C., and continued her formal vocal training at the American Musical Dramatic Academy in New York City. She then left her musical mark on Los Angeles in television, film, and on-stage improvisational comedy with Second City before the birth of her daughter brought her back to Texas. She now resides in Austin and is sharing her singing and songwriting skills with loyal and appreciative audiences.

Insite Magazine says, “Beth performs with a passion many artists lack.”

Beth has released five compact discs on the Shrike Records label. Her first release in 1996 was a self -titled effort recorded in Nashville with world renowned studio musicians; the result a very polished sound unlike most debuts. Arena magazine called it “an alluring first effort… certainly not one dimensional.” Beth then put together her own band and released Send Me On (Shiner Bock Top Ten List of Texas Artists) in 1998 and Semi-Acoustic Always Elastic Monday Night Band in 2000 — the latter a result of an anchor Monday night gig at Austin’s famed Saxon Pub. Both discs were inspired by personal experience and every day conversation. Her evolution into grittier and even more personal territory is evident on her 2002 release, 9 Stories. After a six year hiatus, Beth released Everything Unsaid in November 2008. It was worth the wait.

Beth’s musical style defies classification. Her unique sound blurs boundaries between adult contemporary, modern rock, pop and AAA. Whatever the genre, Beth maintains a consistent and true following. She was named one of the “Top 15 Female Vocalists in Texas” by the Austin Chronicle Music Awards in 1999, 2000,and 2001.

The Austin Chronicle says, “One things for sure about Beth Black–she’s no introvert. No shuffling, no shoe gazing, rather she’ll look you straight in the eye and sing to you in clear, powerful tones.”
