Marci Beaucoup, a singer/songwriter from the Midwest, offers this, her second CD, in an attempt to facilitate change of heart among people during turbulent times. The 7 songs on the new CD "Our Love Lives" focus on the topics of world peace and the power of love while maintaining an upbeat, folkie-pop-rock sort of sound. This CD was originally intended to give an emotional boost to the hard working members of the local and international peace movement after a couple of really discouraging years. However, after a lot of self-exploration and international peace work, Marci has realized that this music can also be a powerful tool at helping to bring people back together after the dramatic polarization that has occurred since 9/11. "After hearing these songs, even very conservative people have been surprised. They make comments about how they believe the same things as I am singing about! It really makes people think. I can literally see them starting to connect the dots. They start to realize that, if they believe in love, they maybe could start to live and apply that love in all aspects of their lives." The songs are not religious, and not terribly political, although cut #2 is an editorial on the Iraq war. "We really could not avoid putting that song on the CD. It is our statement about not only our government''s responsibility, but all of us as Americans'' contribution to the mess we are in." Marci has used this CD locally as a fundraiser for the group "People for Peace." A portion of the profits from the sale of this CD will continue to be used to promote peace related activities.
Beaucoup collaborates and performs with her band, Baba Ghanooj, whose members are either family or "just like family." Two brothers, Rod on bass, and Ric on lead, are joined by husband Fran on mandolin and acoustic guitar. Dear friend John is on drums. There are also nieces, nephews and sons involved on harmonies and in the cover photography and design. It all sounds a bit hokey but it really works. And the family effort on this CD helped to heal personal family conflict brought on by the difficulty of having strongly opposing views about the war in Iraq. "I feel that it was our family''s personal peace project." Marci Beaucoup plays piano, organ and mandolin and vocals on this CD. Marci and the band play in local clubs and at festivals and fundraising events that promote causes that they feel strongly about. "We have played at such a variety of venues, from Big Top Chautauqua on Public Radio to the local biker bar, and everything in between!" They enjoy playing out, but relish the recording experience even more. They have another CD called "Bad Carma" that was released in 1999, and is another example of Marci''s prolific, impressive original songwriting and the band''s exemplary musicianship.
Our Love Lives was recorded in just 2 nights in the local studio so the somewhat raw sound is emblematic of the urgent need felt to get these messages out. Beaucoup took this album to an international women''s peace conference in Manchester England days after she received the final copy where it was distributed to many peace activists in England and Wales.
