Recess is a band that chooses to laugh at itself while exploring the darkness and insecurity that comes with the sixth grader emotions that lie within us all, regardless of our age. From the crippling fear of unrequited love in "Karen" to the calculated risk of an affair in "Wake Up Call" to the inability of holding a steady job in "Norm''s Song", they approach these themes with a bittersweet innocence and a mature triumph.
Their sound has been described as "if Weezer threw a party, invited the Police, Rush, and the Bare Naked Ladies, and at some point they all got up to jam..." They play a blend of power pop, reggae, funk, blues, and modern rock, tempered by their combined loves of progressive rock, folk, and classic rock.
A power trio, Recess feels this medium gives them the space and flexibility to express these multi-dimensional emotions in the purest way possible.
