Sadanya is a very energetic young lady. She loves to share her energy, feelings, and experiences with others. Through the two things she loves most, singing and writing, she is able to do so. Singing and writing is her passion and her way of life.
Sadanya was born and raised on Long Island, New York. She began singing and writing poetry at age eight. Her poetry later transformed into song writing. In 1994 Sadanya signed a record contract with Permanent Records for a song called, "No More Lines". Sadanya was responsible for writing the lyrics and arranging this song. She also sang all vocals on the record. When asked what it was like to be part of such a project, this is what Sadanya had to say: "It was an honor and a pleasure to work with such a great songwriter, producer, and singer as Glenn "Sweety G" Toby. He had just written a song for Sybil "You''re the Love Of My Life", and signed such great musicians as Dwayne D Kerr, who is currently on tour with Erika Badu, to his label, Permanent Records. Everyone was so supportive, and David Knight, who had just engineered one of SWV''s projects, worked so diligently to make sure I came out of the studio with the best sound I could possibly have. All in all, it was truly a blessed experience."
When asked who inspired her, Sadanya said, "Aretha Franklin has contributed so much to music. She is truly an inspiration and has paved the way for many vocalists who enjoy singing from their hearts and souls. When I think back, though, I would have to say that Maya Angelou, Gwendolyn Brooks, Langston Hughes, and Phyllis Wheatly taught me just how beautiful and important words can be."
Sadanya''s musical make-up is comprised of many elements. For example, she has had some musical training in violin, clarinet, drums, opera, and gospel. She has also attended a secondary school where she has studied voice.
Sadanya''s style of singing has been aided in its development by jazz songs her parents played when she was a youngster, as well as gospel music, which helped her both spiritually and musically. Sadanya''s style of writing, however, seems to be one that is all her own. She often writes in prose. This gives the contemporary subjects she writes about the value of a priceless antique you discover accidentally in a thrift shop.
When asked what does one need to endure in this life, Sadanya said, "Versatility, endurance, the power of prayer, and the love of God. Sometimes when I am upset about something or even confused, I pull out my marble notebook and write a letter to God. I find that when I am finished, what was so baffling before isn''t so complex after all. Writers, singers-they come in all shapes, with different looks and sizes-But if you can pull out that part of you that is unique and special, and put that in your art, be it literature, music, or whatever, then you have something that will be marketable because it is priceless!"
