Details:
Christopher Sluka - singer, songwriter, musician, and performer - has now recorded eight studio albums with over 100 original songs which have been released throughout the world. After several years performing on the New York club scene, his first big break came in 1988 when he was approached by some Japanese record executives after a concert. They were impressed by the syncopated gothic groove rock sound of the band, the melodic explorations of his voice, and the almost psychedelic adventures underlying his distinctive and emotive songwriting. They invited him to record one of his songs in Los Angeles to be released as a CD single in Japan. The song, "Sunday''s Child," did so well that an album deal followed. SLUKA was signed to Meldac, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi, for two albums. "Emotional Battlefield," which includes Sunday''s Child, was the first Sluka album and recorded in Tokyo, Japan in 1989. • "Fear of Ordinary Life," the follow-up album was also recorded in Japan at the base of Mount Fuji in 1990. • After recording the 2nd album and touring Japan, the band relocated to Switzerland to promote the music in europe. • The 3rd SLUKA album “Lost In This World” was recorded for CGD/Time-Warner in Milan, Italy in 1993. Produced by Stefano Pulga and Matteo Bonsanto. Coinciding with the record releases were concert performances, TV, radio, and press promotion. He gained experience from his love of "live" performance to which he credits the strength of his powerful yet sensitive voice and his inspired songwriting. Of course, He hasn''t achieved this success all by himself. He was fortunate to work with some of the most gifted and talented musicians in the world. • Christopher was born near Seattle but raised all over the world never spending more than a few of years in any one place. In addition to music, Christopher is a visual artist and his rather surreal oil paintings have been shown in galleries in New York, San Diego, Tokyo, and Milan. He is an avid distance runner and he enjoys flying airplanes. After many years of living abroad, Sluka returned to the USA in 1994 to live in San Diego where he purchased the Javanican Coffee House in Pacific Beach. A second coffee house was opened in Mission Beach. Christopher has performed many times at both locations. • "A Matter of Perception” was his first album recorded in the United States. It was released through his own label, Steel Flower Music, in 1997 and produced by his brother Denis Sluka and Ron Llear. • "A San Diego Zoo" was released in 1999 and found exposure through the internet at sites like https://www.tradebit.com, & iIunes. • "Social Anxiety" was released in 2001. This album delves into danceable Gothic Rock steeped in rythmic acoustic guitars, complex drums, and the spacey keyboard-like vocals of Jennifer Hart. Musically, the album is a unique mix of acoustic instruments & synthesized sounds. Lyrically, Sluka explores the erotic side of social pyschology. • The SLUKA Compilation Album: "Songs From The Set List" was also released in 2001. This Collection of 20 songs, taken from the first six Sluka Albums, was remastered and enhanced especially for this compilation. The songs were chosen because they were the most often performed "live" at Sluka concerts during the summer european tour of 2001. • "Gothic Cavalier" was the next studio album and includes a bonus DVD that contains a video of the title track and "Live" performances from concert tours throughout the world as well as interviews, TV appearances, documentaries, and videos for songs released during the previous 15 years: released 2004. • In October 2008, after 15 years of ownership, he sold the coffee house business to focus on the writing and recording of a new album. • "Solo Flight" is the 8th Sluka album released March 17th, 2009. It contains 16 new recordings. As the title suggests, this album is a solo effort. An additional challenge was to write and record songs that would utilize only an electric guitar, a drum machine, and a single lead vocal expressing the melodies with visceral biting lyrics. All the tracks were recorded “live” in the studio (as a listener would hear them “live” in concert), without the use of studio effects, edits, or overdubs. • Christopher Sluka has also been an aviation enthusiast all his life. He has a Masters Degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle University. He currently holds a Commercial Pilot''s License and is a Gold Seal Certified Flight Instructor (CFI, CFII, MEI) by the FAA with over 3,000 hours of flight time. He is the Assistant Chief Instructor for National Air College, Montgomery Field Airport, San Diego, CA.
