What do you get when you combine the musical talents of two Catholic dads and their wives (along with their combined 12 kids - so far)? “What I’ve Settled For…” the newest musical release by award-winning singer/songwriter Sean Clive.

The project has been in gestation for about two years since the release of Clive’s Unity Award winning CD, "Amazed". And like any new baby, anticipation ran high for this long-awaited new arrival.

Without a doubt, this CD is more than just good songs with a good message. The listener really gets to know Clive in both his lyrics and his voice. The stories and feelings he shares with us in the liner notes are not what we expect in these days of digital downloads and throw away lifestyle - here today, gone tomorrow. Clive really wants people to hold on to this project, to listen and read and think. He wants to share his heart with anyone who will listen.

This is not a CD for the faint of heart. Nor is it a CD packed with the Praise and Worship music we have come to expect from many of today’s top Christian musicians (though there are some of those songs too). This CD has a selection of real life music that will appeal across the board, from slow to fast, from funny to tender. These are songs about being a dad, a husband, a child of God. These are songs about joy and sadness, difficult decisions and reliance upon God’s mercy and love. These are songs for all seasons. These are songs for all ages. These are songs that will get you moving. These are songs that are not made for liturgy but ones that can be blared from your car while driving down city streets or open roads. These are songs to share. These are songs with catchy melodies and harmonies with deep and relevant lyrics thanks to the songwriting team Clive put together with 2007’s "Amazed" (Clive and his wife, Jennifer, and David C. Smith).

This release is certainly not your run of the mill backroom home recording. The production on this CD is top-notch. David C. Smith, of Icon Music Studio (Fort Wayne, Indiana) and Clive are good friends. They are co-writers and have a common musical taste as well as a common faith and brotherhood in Jesus Christ. What makes this CD so wonderful is the fact that these songs seem to explode from the depths of the hearts of everyone involved. Smith’s musical production is subtle at times and powerful at others. The arrangements are sublime and really capture the heart of both the lyrics and the style. You can easily hear the influences of the musicians’ favorites, from the Beatles to Bread, from Chris Tomlin to PFR. But all of this is enveloped in a waterfall of faith amidst the ordinary and extraordinary of life.

This CD is packed with some very intimate and powerful songs that encompass Clive’s faith, family and life. God is ever present in these songs, whether Clive comes right out and sings to or about Him (as in Christ Reigns, The Everlasting or Beyond Me) or whether he sings of the amazing gifts of love that flow from the heart of God in marriage and family (as in Ordinary Way or Go To Sleep). It is refreshing to hear songs that mean something to the singer / songwriter. Clive seems to be able to capture, even for a brief moment, the joy of his life with a child who is “the one everyone has one of” (as in Kids Are Great) or the heartache of a child who has turned from the faith in pursuit of more worldly things (as in Turn Away), or the struggle each of us encounters as we discern God’s desire for our life (as in Around and Around).

Clive is an independent musician, following God’s lead instead of a record label’s direction. Independence means working with little money, lots of love and choosing the friends you want to play with. Having full control of the project frees Clive to choose to whom he wants to give the reigns. Being able to rely on Smith with musical issues and Jacob Souva (Two Fish Illustration and Design) with artwork and presentation issues, Clive knew the final product would be amazing.

“I had worked with both Dave and Jake on “Amazed” and was so thankful for God’s answer to our prayers for faith-filled people to join us on our first project. The new project was a little more demanding as it needed to show who I am and I feel like these guys poured out themselves and exceeded my wildest dreams.”

"What is great about working with Dave is the fact that he and I are living parallel lives in many respects. We share a faith. We share a devotion to our wives and families. We love being dads and husbands. We actually desire to know God''s will for us and rely on Him to lead the way. We trust each other enough to be honest in our work together. And, we love the same music."

"I enjoy making music almost as much as I like making babies," Clive said. "As Pope John Paul II said, crafting music and art mirrors the creativity of God. We fashion our lives and our music, sharing in the creativity of the Creator. And this life provides an amazing template with which we can paint our pictures in song and word."
