Details:
Shannon Dove and Brent Holl present this new recording project from Shen Fine. The album features the rich vocal harmony that dazzles audiences in the Shenandoah Valley and Virginia at live performances. Traditional songs, originals both accompanied and a cappella make this a memorable listening experience.

A new addition to the instrument collection is featured on many of the songs on this CD. In early 2005, Brent bought an Octave Mandolin at a local music shop and has been slowly adding it to gigs and recordings. In this CD several of the tunes feature only Shannon''s guitar and Brent''s octave mandolin. Listen for it featured on Tommy Makem tune, "The Rambles of Spring," "The Fires of Calais," by James Keelaghan, "The Fiery-Haired Mermaid," by former band member and founder, Steve Moreno, and the traditional favorite, "Rosin the Bow."

The Songs also features songs about and from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Steve Moreno''s great song, "Along the Valley Road" is a history lesson about old Route 11 that goes from Maine to New Orleans. This is a remake of this original classic from the first Shen Fine album, "Along the Valley Road."

"The Book of Ruth" is an original tune by band member Shannon Dove. It''s a sweet tune about his home in Mathias, West Virginia, and the loved ones in his family. Bart Reardon makes a return appearance with some great guitar work giving this song a contemporary folk feel similar to Jesse Colin Young. Thanks again Bart!

Shannon has also written another song for this project, "Long May You Flow." It''s a celebration of the river that winds its way through the Shenandoah Valley northward to the Potomac near Washington DC. Shannon wrote this while at a music festival in Ohio after describing his home to many of the festival goers.

"Oh, Shenandoah" is a classic shanty that is often associated with the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, but is actually a song from the Missouri River. We''ve combined it here with Terry Crawford''s great country song, "Amarillo by Morning" which was famously covered by George Strait.

"Hard Times," by Stephen Foster, "Ringsend Rose," by Pete St. John, and the traditional songs, "The Raggle Taggle Gypsy," and "Van Dieman''s Land" feature rich vocal harmony and simple but polished guitar accompaniment. The last song on the CD, "The Parting Glass," is often the last song at these performances and is always sung a cappella. These songs are favorites of the band and are sung often at gigs in the Shenandoah National Park.

Shannon Dove writes songs for the band including two for this project. He''s the sound man, plays 6 and 12 string Guild guitars, bodhran and is the lead singer.

Brent Holl is the arranger and publisher for the band. He plays the Octave Mandolin, 12 string Takamine and 6 string Martin D-2R, both tuned in DADGAD. The unique sound of Shen Fine''s guitar accompaniments is achieved by this combination of regular and modal tunings on 6 and 12 string guitars. Brent also plays bass, bodhran, and percussion.
