Details:
Forming in September of 2002, Clark Harney (vocals) and John Baehr (bass) both played in Based On Suspicion—a band that never made it past its Jr. High days. They disbanded within a few months and went on to form Charged in December with Clark’s younger brother, Garrett Harney on drums, and Niko Doerschel on guitar. With influences that range from AFI, Converge, American Nightmare, R.A.M.B.O, GBH, and The Legend of Zelda, Charged mix elements of hardcore with the thrashy tempo of Nardcore (think Negative Approach meets Shook Ones).

Over the years, Charged’s sound has progressed into a more unique and mature style of their own, mixing aggressive music with musicianship (check out Niko''s sweep-picking on "Braveheart" and John''s bass runs on "Trenchfoot"). Their lyrical content has evolved as well, covering everything from straight edge ethics, although not a proclaimed straight edge band; (“YITDS” off their self-titled from ’06 chants “Yeah I think drinking sucks. I don’t really care if you do it. As long as you don’t drink and drive and kill me”) to the latter material with deeper meaning (“We fell into the city lights that blinded us…nostalgic sentiments, we never got to say what we meant” [“Circle Streets”]).

Charged has always been a band that willingly plays shows despite the fact that all members are currently in school and holding down jobs. They adopted the DIY ethic early on and have booked the majority of their shows & tours, designed their own merchandise, and have never shied away from playing in Newhall Park or some crowded garage in Santa Clarita. They have shared the stage with many favorites such as Ceremony, Sabertooth Zombie, Dangers, Touche Amore, Hallowed Ground, Blacklisted, and Internal Affairs*, and yet remain four of the most down to earth guys in the punk scene today.

Charged were Melotov Records first sign as a label, and have cemented their place as vital components to the underground scene. Needless to say, they are one of the greats to come out of the Santa Clarita Valley joining the likes of hardcore punk legends, Infest, who also emerged from this LA suburb. Although they decided to disband in March of 2009, this won’t be the last you hear from John, Clark, Niko, and Garrett. The guys have decided to “move onto bigger, better, and more punk” projects, and are expected to have one more release before their curtain call.
