Kyle Cousins simply rocks. Not video countdown, radio dictated rocks, but work overtime to cop the best tickets rent money will buy rocks. It’s a familiar but welcomed sound; three electric guitars, real drums, piano and vocals, the kind with harmonies and ranges, and last but not least, lyrics that actually matter. What a concept. Like most artists, Kyle was drawn to music early but what’s a gift for his audience is the myriad of musical genres he experienced. He immersed himself in his greatest influence, Classic Rock, but Kyle can recite the best of Public Enemy at will. His heroes are Rock Gods Freddie Mercury and Meatloaf, (Bat Out of Hell left him full of goose bumps and forever changed). Their impact is evident in his music, but neither overbearing nor campy; Kyle has crafted his own unique sound over a Classic Rock foundation. The approach to his work is rather conventional, the music comes first then Kyle “captures” lyrics second, almost rivaling the stories his melodies tell. This method has worked well for Cousins, whose debut Cd Kyle Cousins: Spectrum, includes anthem hitters like “Love Myself” and “Yesterday’s Words.” The latter is his favorite because of its catchy yet diagnostic chorus, “We’re goin’ on, we’re walkin’, we’re talkin’ yesterday’s words. They don’t know nothin’ about us; we’re stuck in yesterday’s words.” Kyle doesn’t just sing but makes life commentaries with his music. Kyle’s work is driven by a desire to be “a mainstream threat towards today’s artists,” he adds, “I hope to make music that really connects to a different variety of people.” His song “Everybody Wants to be Heard” just might accomplish such a lofty goal with its classic structure and contemporary production, resulting in a rich full sound with a relevant message. Kyle Cousins is a unique artist because he is not chasing fame but genuinely loves the art of making good music. Kyle has studied well and daily puts his learning to practice. Because of this hard work, the road before Kyle is paved with multiple opportunities to grow and share his work with a wide audience sure to love what he has to say.
