MP3 The PCP - Afterthought

Like Pete told me, if you write about one person, you''ve written about a million. What do you think?

10 MP3 Songs
ROCK: 70''s Rock, ROCK: Modern Rock

Details:
It all started at a Swami gig. I went to see my good buddy Damian Eckstein, leader of that particularly amazing band downtown at the Village Underground. I didn''t realize that after the show, they were going straight up to 26th street to record an album from the middle of the night until dawn. Damian asked me to somehow get their lead singer to the session as he was a notorious ladies man and pub crawler. Three clubs and several awesome looking female dancers later, we made it to the session. The vibe of Dubway Studios was just right, and I decided right then and there that the album stuck in my head for the past 5 years was going to be recorded, and this was the place I would do it.

I didn''t have a band at the time, but I knew the guys I wanted to do this with. Scott Wilson, a dynamic drummer who could play 11/13 time if necessary could play anything from jazz to blues to progressive to anything in between. He would be critical if I was going to be able to play the subtleties I wanted to achieve. Patrick Carbone was the bass player I needed to get a truly live feel. Although they didn''t know it, I was going to record ten tracks in one night, and I knew they were going to have to be the best musicians I could get to pull this off. Of course, I didn''t tell them the plan - I figured they''d find out soon enough.

True to my word, we cranked out the songs and at the end of the session, the two of them looked at me with a mixture of awe and disgust, much to everyone''s shock that we could put that many songs down in one go. I never had doubts. The result - Afterthought. This album is pretty autobiographical, but as my old friend Pete used to say, when you write about one person (in this case, me) you''re writing about a million people. Hopefully that''s the case. See for yourself.

LINER NOTES - the ones not found in the album.

HUMAN NATURE: At some point in your life, you start to think that everyone in the world is evil. I came to this realization at some point and cited some examples. Paul Taylor Dance Company member Orion Duckstein lends solo guitar here and punctuates said observations with some unbelievable aggressive guitar.

TIME WILL TELL: That moment in every relationship when you get the feeling that it may be doomed...though you hope for the best.

WHAT HAPPENED, ANYWAY: A Christmas card came to me once from the last person I ever expected to hear from again. These were the only words written on the card. The organ solo was inspired by old Velvet Underground records.

WALTZ: As a production manager for several dance companies, I grew to admire dancers as the ultimate artists. This song is dedicated to them. The words are about something else, and are pretty self explanitory. This is also the end of the slow side of the record.

DRIVING: An adventure about a car, a hitchhiker, the road and getting on with it. Orion is back channelling road rage through his strat. There was no arrangement for this song - we all had one take at it - no excuses, no apologies. Later, Orion was allowed to listen to the track once before he put down his solos in a single take.

TUNNELVISION/INTO THE FIRE AGAIN: Getting back on your feet and getting on with your life, sometimes you just have to.

MY LOVE FOR YOU: Ever go through your high school love letters and read all about all the mountains you will move and all the rivers you will cross? The fact is, the mountain isn''t going anywhere. And so what? The quicker you get to the reality of each other, the better.

YOU JUST KNOW IT: You don''t always know if the person you''re with is the wrong person, but when they''re right, you just know it.

AFTERTHOUGHT: Don''t dwell on the past, but don''t forget all of it either. Sometimes you have to give it an afterthought.
