Vernita was born and raised in Chicago in a very loving family. As a small child, she listened to her mother sing and her dad play great Jazz records.
These things influence her to pursue her dream of singing.
She has sung around town, but didn''t really become serious about her music, until a friend said write your own songs and sing them. In 1977 she studied at the Blood School of Jazz. That''s when she started her songwriting career. She has also performed in several plays. Vernita started with "Ain''t Misbehavin" in 1996. She went on to do "Gods Trombones" and the Avenue, just to name a few. Having this theatrical experience gave her the guts to go to the top. The support of family and friends gave her the inspiration to write songs, sing and even act in plays. Vernita''s repertoire includes Jazz, Blues, R&B, Gospel, Rock, Latin and Children''s songs.
Her CD single, God Send Down An Angel" was released in 2000.
There is also an entire orchestra score for this song. She is now working on her first gospel CD. As well as doing a great job singing her own songs, she sends out a message of peace and love. Vernita is also a poet and publisher with Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI). Now that she''s older, nothing gonna stop her now. She believes, "I can and I will succeed with the help of the Lord"
Vernita is living proof that it''s never too late to make your dreams come true.
